now that the group stages are coming to an end it seems that fr caseys adare and drom broadford are guaranteed a semi final place.the bookies have drom firm favs at 6/5 and fr caseys at 5/2 adare are 9/2 and monaleen at 8/1. some good value there i think.

Group One is wide open. Drom will top the group more than likely. But the two QF spots can go any way. You would expect Monaleen to qualify. St. Pats are peaking and have been unlucky only to register their first win last night. Kierans flatter to deceive with victories over Claughaun and Ballysteen but hammerings by Monaleen and Pats. Ballysteen are the same and their future will be decided tonight against Monaleen.
Claughaun scraped a win but have been awful.

Group Two you will have Adare and Caseys in first and second with third place a playoff next weekend between Bally and Senans. Senans were destroyed by Caseys this weekend while Bally had a good victory over Pallas. It looks as if NCW will be in the relegation final on this form.

Its hard to look past D-B but they haven`t been convincing the last two matches as they were earlier the summer, maybe it was break for the Senior county team and they havn`t trained. I haven`t seen Adare so I won`t comment but a man at the Caseys Senans pointed out that with hurling outta the way that Adare will take the football seriously. Caseys look well motivated and built for a challenge on my viewing of their match against Senans. No matter who you are playing to put up a score of 1-20 and concede 6 points is impressive.

The senior football will be between drom adare and i think ballysteen. Drom are most likely to win it yet again. They have the strength and depth and obviously bags of experience.

I think they can still qualify but they are dependent on other results I think.

Ballysteen 1-10 Monaleen 2-5
Ballysteen nearly blew it again for the second round running when, after missing an open goal, they saw the ball make its way down to the other end of the pitch for sub John Paul Stokes to bag his second goal of the night. However, they held out through the two anxious minutes remaining in injury time to put themselves in pole position for the play-offs. Apart from Stokes, Monaleen posed little threat up front and came off second best in most sectors of the field.

Ballysteen seem to have a lot of bother finishing off teams this year in the last ten minutes. Is it a lack of discipline, fitness or mentality Prof?

Dont under estimate their ability to play football over there.

Against Kierans, the introduction of Jim Donovan at half-time made a big difference as it gave their forwards a focus that was lacking up to then. I thought Ballysteen eased up a bit once they`d built up a decent lead, Kierans got the break for the first goal, Johnny and Paudie McCarthy were playing out of their skins, the disputed point unsettled Maurice Carrig who then got sent off and Ballysteen hadn`t a reliable place kicker for two equalising chances late in the game. I suppose these things happen to every team every now and then and particularly when neighbouring parishes are involved.

Maybe the Kierans match was in the back of their minds last night but Ballysteen never really looked like losing. The wet conditions kept the scoring down and John Paul Stokes kept his side in the game by poaching two goals against the run of play but Monaleen lacked a real driving force like the McCarthys to lead them over the line.

Looking at both games as a neutral, I`d say whatever psychological scars Ballysteen picked up against Kierans were smoothed over by their ability to hold out against Monaleen.

I was talking to someone from Monaleen and he said Luke Kavanagh was a massive loss. The same individual didnt rate Kavanagh a few years ago  (and Kavanagh was a Limerick Under 21 around that time ) . So has Kavanagh developed to the stage where he is indispensible, or is it more a case of Monaleen not having the same quality of player anymore?

Paul Kinnerk is back after a shoulder injury but I believe that Cormac Joyce Power didnt stand out at all. From what I have seen of CJP this year, he has played better in the hurling than in the football  (except against Croom when all the Ahane players were poor )

From looking at Joyce-Power coming up from minor to today. His talents haven`t developed skill or tactic-wise either as a finisher or a link-man for IC Football. His size and stature is basically his only strength.

i think Luke Kavanagh and Joyce Power played well with Tralee IT and will feature on Limerick teams in the future. Joyce will be under 21 again in the coming season and hope he can realise the raw potential he displayed as a minor
