Tipperary legend John Leahy fears that the sideline altercation between Liam Sheedy and Brian Cody earlier this year could come back to haunt the Premier County.
The rival managers squared up to each other on the Semple Stadium sideline during Tipp`s National League victory in March, and Leahy believes Kilkenny could use the incident as motivation in Sunday`s All-Ireland final.
Cody pointed a finger at Sheedy, who responded by pushing the Kilkenny manager in the chest. But the pair shook hands at the final whistle and dismissed the flashpoint after the game.
"Kilkenny`s performances over the last few years show that they are the best team in the country," 1989 and `91 All-Ireland winner Leahy said.
"On top of that, also, I`m a bit concerned with the Tipp-Kilkenny match that happened in Thurles when Liam Sheedy had a go at Cody. Will that come back to haunt Tipperary hurling for the final? That`ll give Kilkenny a huge incentive to play against Tipperary.
"The ideal situation from a Kilkenny point of view would be that if you did want to do five-in-a-row, you would want to beat Tipp to do it. Living on the border (Mullinahone ) , I hear huge rivalry there.
"It`s great, but it`s intense as well and I`m sure every Kilkenny player would think if you`re going to do five-in-a-row, then why not cap it off by beating Tipperary, one of their main rivals?"

Leahy and Babs seem to have harbored a grudge against Liam Sheedy since Sheedy took the job , nothing he does seems to be right with them, Babs even accused Sheedy of taking Tipp hurling back years.
It is stupid of Leahy to bring this up now as another way of getting at Sheedy , I do not think it will disappoint him at all to see Tipp get bet on Sunday

Strange thing to come out with the week your county plays in the AI but I suppose he`s just looking for another angle on it. Pathetic to suggest that the outcome could be affected by one man poking another in the chest - I don`t think the Kilkenny lads are that desperate for motivating factors.

Mr. Leahy outpourings would appear to be prompted by Mr. M. Keating.

As you know, Hoss, I`m a huge admirer of `The Boy Leahy`s` hurling gifts, but I must admit that his `logic`, such as it is, for this latest comment escapes me.
Unless he`s acting as some kind of Babs` `surrogate`

I think Cody is facing a bit of a dillema this weekend.
If he starts Shefflin, who lets face simply cannot be 100% for an allIreland final then he is, A: flying in the face of all he`s preached about players not getting picked unless their showing it in training.B: in for a roasting if Shefflin either can`t handle the pace or breaks down.

I actually agree with Leahy on this one. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this incident in the league was that Cody would be hell bent on making Sheedy pay for this later in the year

Bollocks, whatever motivation Cody derives from that incident will be double matched by sheedy the very sight of brian Cody is like a red rag to a bull for any tipp man . I saw him in kk a few weeks ago and wanted to pull him out of his car and catch him in a right good head lock until he admitted marty morrissey is ten times the man he is. But I didn`t I practised a bit if restraint .

I don`t think Cody is that petty
(although his respective interviews, last year and this year, with Marty Morissey did cause me to question that belief )

The bit of restraint thing was a good idea, rev. If you decided on the head lock thing "rev it up` could well have been a life-preserving option.

Ah no. Excuses are more appropriate for a county who failed to make it to any provincial hurling decider this year!!what a rubbish year for any hurling county.

I always laugh at these type of comments, about some little thing meaning one will be more "up for it" or "motivated" than the other.
I could see the logic if it was a challenge game, and one team wasn`t interested, but this is an All-Ireland final. The entire county is talking about it, as they are in every participants county every year. Of course the team will be `up for it`.
No doubt if Kilkenny win they`ll be saying it was to prove a point after last year, which gave them extra motivation.
If Tipperary win, it`ll be the same thing.

I don`t think it will make any difference. It was handbags and most people had forgotten about it. Until now that is.
