I was at the game last night, and was very impressed with the pitch and new stadium. It seems like it will have a good atmosphere when it is full to capacity.
But, two things were lacking that kinda ______-ed me off..
1. No live stream of the match on the big screens. There were two screens that showed nothing but the time, score and country crests. Very annoying in my opinion.
2. At half time when I went to the concession stands, there was no beer being served. I don`t normally have a huge problem with that, but Guinness logos were all over a bar area that was only serving burgers. It kinda buugged me when I fancied a quick pint.
Am I just being overly fussy, or what?
Also, the caps from my bottle of coke were removed before being handed over to me!
Anyhow, rant over!!

Serving beer to soccer hooligans would be a recipe for disaster.

You can`t buy alcohol inside the grounds at Champions league games - I presume its the same for the European qualifiers? EUFA are the ones responsible for this.

It was my first international in 10-11 years alright, wasnt a boozer when i was 15-16. The last game i was at was a Championship game in England where booze was served at half time. That was 4-5 years ago. I didnt realise that booze was banned in UEFA games. I would be of the opinion that they should hide the Guinness logos on the bars if they are not serving booze at the ground. Would lead to less confusion really.

Two of main sponsors of the Champions Legaue are Stella and Heineken - yet alcohol is banned from the grounds for Champions League games.

The most striking thing last pm was the amount of empty seats for a European qualifier.
I guess the days when people were prepared to pay €50+ to watch Ireland play against a ski resort are well and truly over.
The few lads that did get caught out and actually bought one of the FAI 10 year seats at ridiculous price must feel like right tools now.

Unless things have changed, the FAI operates a block booking system for games. So to buy a ticket for one, you have to buy a ticket for all of them.
Therefore, people did pay €50+ - they just didn`t turn up for it.

.........I was there last night, along with 40,000 Irish Football fans, a fantastic crowd in my opinion. In fact it was one of, if not the biggest crowds at any Football game in Europe last night.

Exactly!
I think 40,000 people turning up for a game against a team of amateurs is good going.
Shame they dont watch their local teams with the same level of interest.

I was at the game last night and in fairness there was nowhere near 40,000 there. There may have been 40,000 tickets sold but a bad night weather wise and the fact we were playing Andorra meant there were about 30,000 there.
As regards the booze issue it was the same for the Argentina game,i went to the bar at halftime and was told by someone wearing a guinness shirt working behind a bar that they weren`t serving drink, very confusing. Also didn`t understand the taking off the bottle tops off the coke.

They take off the bottle tops so you can`t throw them

This stops soccer hooligans throwing full bottles.
With the lid on, a thrown bottle is like a rock.
If it gets thrown without the lid, it empties in flight and is way lighter.

They take the tops off so you don`t throw them.
I was only watching it on TV, so open to correction. But it looked like their was more than 20% of the seats empty.

they count the corporate and premium level in the attendance figures as those seats have been sold already

........and the steward in Croke Park in the Leinster Final was hit with a bottle thrown by a "soccer fan" no Gael would do such a thing!

Probably.
Louth is a big soccer county. Drogheda and Dundalk are rough garrison towns.
I bet it was a soccer fan going to his only GAA match of the year.

Fair enough re the bottle tops, must be another UEFA directive like the selling of beer.Don`t think there would be any problems with anything being thrown in Lansdowne but maybe in other parts of Europe or some danger fixtures.

Noy sure but I am fairly sure the GAA has that policy of including pre sold corporate and premium tickets when it comes to attendances in Croke Park. However the GAA undercount most attendances at regional grounds as they dont include the u-16s who dont pay for in.

That would never happen at an Eire match. Best fans in the world.

At the Dylan concert at Thomond in July they removed all the lids on the way in .
