Tá sé sin suimiúil. Is cosúil gur nós é d`imreoirí nuacht mór mar seo a bhriseadh ar Raidio na Gaeltachta mar a dúirt mé anseo cheana. An bhfuil sé fíor go bhfuil sé ag éirí as?

Statement issued on behalf of Seán Óg Ó hAilpín

Monday October 18

"I met with the Cork hurling manager, Denis Walsh, on Saturday last  (16th September )  where he informed me that I was not in his plans for the Cork Hurling Panel. I would love to continue to play for Cork, but I must respect the manager’s decision in this regard.

"I will however keep playing with my club Na Piarsaigh.

"I would like to thank all the players who I played with over my fourteen year career. I have always taken immense pride in wearing the Cork jersey and representing the county I love. I wish the Cork team the best of luck in their future endeavours.

"I would like to thank all of the Cork supporters and GAA supporters around the country for their phenomenal support throughout my career.

"I do not wish to make any further comment on this matter.

"Corcaigh abú."

Sad news indeed from the point of view that i`d rather have seen Sean Og retire himself than be told by Denis Walsh that he was not in his plans for the year ahead.
A great servant to Cork Gaa and the Gaa in general, a gentleman on the field and a great ambassador off it.
I wish him all the best for the future and a happy if not self imposed retirement.

Sean Og abu!

Not really the way anyone wants to go but he had a very mixed year with some good and some bad performances. His legs seem to have gone a bit and it was always his athletisicim which he releyed more on than his skill, although he had good skill also. Certainly one of the best wing backs of his generation. He had a good old time out of it and both gave and received a lot from the GAA. Best of luck to him.

Typical Sean Og of late - he couldn`t just retire. Why does he have to make reference to Denis Walsh not wanting him? In fact Walsh is doing him a favour by getting rid of him before he`s destroyed. Furthermore it can only be good for Cork hurling, they need to move on.

I know Sean Og has been a bit annoying over the last few seasons but there does seem to be an obsession in GAA that a player is expected to retire as soon as they hit 30. There is almost pressure put on them every year to retire and it`s ridiculous. Sure look at Tony Browne picking up player of the month awards at 37 and he would still probably get on any team bar KK.

The question is do Cork have anyone currently better than Sean Og, even if he isn`t the player he once was? Probably not is the answer ...

There isn`t a word of that I would or could disagree with.

Its the end of an era, and Sean gave us all some great times.

Any chance his club mate would go with him and let Cork totally renew itself?

Possibly not redlead but at this stage Cork are better giving the likes of William Egan a chance to develop himself and grow as a hurler rather than stick with Sean Og for another year.

Hailpin was a great servant and it was a privilege to see him play over the years. Best of luck to him in retirement.

...or in the Cork football squad!

Bizzare decision if true - Cork do need to build for the future but rule no 1 is that you try and ensure the best players are available. By all means let the new players try and wrestle the jersey off the established guys by dent of their performances on the field but don`t discard a player just on his age, unless you are full sure that you have two other players in his position that are better than him.

No evidence on the basis of this year`s inter county games or Cork club c`ships that Walsh has these options available.

You`ve hit the nail on head there.

The ageism in GAA  (mostly from supporters )  is shocking.

You would have thought there would be some place for him on the panel , he would make a very good impact sub if he isnt in the managers plans to start.Surely Cork cant have 30 hurlers with more to offer than Sean Og has.

I was meaning to remind readers of the above mentioned sourse meself.

And seeing as the GPA are now part of Croke Park, does this mean that Croke Park will be speaking for players too?
