Hurling Board motion passed at Convention by 164 votes to 74. Carried by 5 votes on a 2/3rds majority.

Get in. Great news, Back page man will be sickened.

Something had to change and the County Board - as they proved last year - are unable to govern our affairs in a professional manner.

Hopefully the right people with the right motives get elected. No more career politicians please.

Interesting. The farce in December seems to have effected a sea-change in opinion on this. Hopefully this doesn`t end up being just another layer of bureaucracy.

At last the county board have been put in their place.
The clubs have sent a clear message to the board in relation to their mismanagement of Limerick hurling.
Now Larkin please refrain from the negativity as we all know you were against it from day one

May have been covered already, but where does it go from here? Who is going to pick the hurling board and when might they be in situ??

This should happen in every county. Where only hurling clubs get to decide on any hurling related matters.

I fail utterly to see where you can point out negativity in my post but I`ll entertain you for the sake of a discussion. The main reason I was against it was because, as fullback 1980 says above, there will be somewhere else for the seatwarmers to rest their bottoms. I may be wrong on this but only time will tell as to whether my cynical interpretation of the new board is true. For the record my views on this are that, 1. There needs to be root and branch reform of the committee structures in Limerick county. 2. EVERY committee needs to be reassessed as to its effectiveness and there are to be no sacred cows. 3. 4. Once someone has served on a committee they can serve on no others for a period of at least one year. 5. There needs to be some way of making club delegates at county board meetings accountable   to their clubs for the way they vote. Expecting Henry Martin to stand up at every meeting to say in public what club delegates are thinking is no longer any good and is one of the reasons that Limerick GAA is in the shhit that it is in.
Clear?

I raised the issued about Mickey Sullivan today.

His response was "I used common sense, something that Henry wouldnt know anything about".

[In fairness to Liam lenihan, he made the point that it`s up to the clubs to change things.
So Larkin, 3 questions:
1. Are you a member of a club ?
2. If you are, how did your club`s meeting go in relation to the hurling committee ?
3. What way did your club vote ?

I made my position crystal clear and you go off on a tangent. What next, my membership number? Copy of driving license? Anything else that takes your fancy? If you want a proper discussion then fine if not then kindly refrain from offering a comment on anything I say.

[You have not made your position clear.
If you have made you position clear , it is to your club you should do so first.
Otherwise you are just another hurler on the ditch.
So can you answer the questions please ?

Yes great day for hurling. After the intial 4 speakers there was a palpable ground swell of support in favour of the Motion and I didnt expect it to be such a large victory.

The fact that Patrickswell, Adare, Garryspillane and Kilmallock came out in favour of it was very helpful. Furthermore, the letter sent by the County Board on the 23rd of Nov 2010 discrediting the hurling committee also helped them.

There seemed to be a genuine intolerance from the floor towards the County exc utive and the manner they have been running their affairs and particularly hurling.

Great result but its only the start. The Committee needs men of calibre on it now and hopefully the steering committee will propose good candidates. The worry would be that the County exc utive might pack the Hurling Committee with their own yes men.

Watch this space and beware, anything is possible. Its Limerick.

I think you`re being a bit overly harsh on the exc utive. They might have opposed the motion but they took the result with good grace.

I`d also have to say that the whole debate was a good example of how the Association, and Limerick County Board in particular, can conduct its affairs when everybody keeps the overall good of Gaelic games within focus. Even though this was a hotly contested issue with strong views both for and against, almost all of the contributions from both sides were positive. The Chairman handled both the discussion and its aftermath in a fair and reasonable manner and the main promoters of the motion acted with dignity throughout. I know this might be a cliche but most people left the hall with the view that Limerick GAA benefited from the experience. Of course, the question now is to convert that sentiment into concrete results.

Maybe I am being harsh Prof but the reality is that people have a right to be sceptical especially after the year we have just had. I was not at the meeting and I have no reason to question your report of it, thank you for same. I hope that this new found ability to discuss things is not something that will be forgotten tomorrow because it was as a result of that lack of discussion that we had to endure last year.

Capitalhurler, when you ask me something relevant then I might extend to you the courtesy of a response. Being accused of being a hurler on the ditch is something you will never be able to level at me.

Lads can one of the delegates who were at the meeting give a brief synopsis of what was said at the meeting to sway the voters?

Basically it was a meeting of raw passion and emotion. The hurling board members were very critical of the email sent to the clubs before christmas.

The County Board speakers from the top table     actually did more harm than good to their own viewpoint on the matter.

I personally believe that one of the most moving speeches came from John Franklin. His eight year old son John `Donie` Franklin was the mascot to the Limerick Intermediates in 2008 when they won the Munster Championship. He said that prior to the Justin controversy that he used to go to sleep in his Limerick Jersey and they couldnt go to Dublin without having to visit Croke Park to buy him Limerick Jocks.

At Christmas 2010 all that changed. The presents he wanted from Santa were 2 Liverpool Jerseys, Fifa 11 and Rugby ball.

Thanks for that report prof
Look Larkin, the easiest thing to do here is pontificate about what should be done etc
But yet again you have shown yourself up by failing to confirm if you raised your concerns to your club.
Otherwise you are no different to any random punter who has a casual opinion.
So yet again, please answer the three relevant questions I asked and confirm that you are not indeed a hurler on the ditch.

Good Jesus, pontificate? Have you any idea or basic knowledge of the English language? As you sit there insisting that I reveal what I did within my club do you see no contraction in your actions? My thought have been aired well beyond my club and I have given my thoughts here. What exactly is your beef, so to say?

You seem to consider yourself as an authority on Limerick hurling but you can`t confirm if you are a club member. Yet another hurler on the ditch.
Next time try turning up to your club meetings Larkin.

Never considered myself an authority on anything, however I am entitled to have an opinion of my own as well as being in a position to offer others the chance to voice theirs. On the other hand you seem to have an unhealthy fixation with what I do in my club. Care to share it, or are you afraid that your own identity will be revealed? Do you always ask someone what club they are from before you grace them with your own words of wisdom?
